1972 Chinese Mayors in the Delta

This 1972 newspaper article that was published in many cities publicized the fact that three Chinese were mayors in Delta towns. In view of the history of racial prejudices against Chinese in the Delta for many decades, these pioneers, Luck Wing in Sledge, his brother John Wing in Jonestown, and Charlie Wah in Turrell, AR, made significant breakthroughs in becoming majors and raised the acceptance of Chinese in the region.

So happy and proud of these gentlemen. Was beginning of seeing beyond birthplace or skin color, they proudly turned the curve. Now mayors and other officials are not judged by small minds but by character.
